Could you write a song? Perhaps you are already a songwriter, or have always had a song in your head just waiting for you to write it. If so, the Last Choir Singing Song Writing Contest is for you!
Entry is FREE and is open to both adults and children.
Organisers of the Last Choir Singing Choir Competition are looking for a song to be performed by the choirs in the Last Choir Singing County Final, at King George’s Hall in Blackburn, in June.
The Last Choir Singing Choir Competition was launched last year by True Bearing Chartered Financial Planners, based in Euxton, and was a great success. It was an opportunity for junior school children throughout the region to showcase their skills in a supportive and fun environment. There were 6 Heats, culminating in a sell-out Final at the beautiful King George’s Hall in Blackburn.
Last year’s competition was a huge success with around 1,500 children taking part in 45 choirs which proved that music education is thriving in the North West.
This year sees many schools returning from last year, along with new ones. Once again, there will be 6 Heats. Approximately 10 schools will make it through to the Final, in which they will have to sing a set song and a song of their own choice.
The song that wins will become the set song that is performed by the choirs at the Final on Friday 17th June.
Project Manager, Anita Shaw, said: “We wanted to look at ways of providing additional music opportunities this year, in a way that would have integrity with, and enrich, the Choir Competition. A Song Writing Contest opens the Last Choir Singing Competition up to many other people.”
Shortlisted applicants will have an acoustic version of their song performed live on Radio Lancashire by the celebrated singer, Duncan Heather, and will have the chance to be interviewed on the radio.
The Prize is a professional recording of your own EP (4 songs) in a studio, or a cash prize of £250.
The songs will be judged by a panel of experts: Steve Balsamo, prolific singer/songwriter, who shot to instant fame in the late 1990s for his portrayal of Jesus in the West End revival of Jesus Christ Superstar; Chris Eaton, writer of many recognisable songs, including Cliff Richard’s ‘Saviour’s Day’; and Ben Rapp, Regional Manager for Lancashire Music Service, who has a wealth of experience in music education and adjudication of song compositions.
All entries must be recorded and submitted in MP3 format and must not have already been published. The songs will be judged on composition and suitability for children’s choirs, not on vocal performance or song production.
