Whether you’re looking for a family panto, a beautiful ballet performance or a drama to remember, there are plenty of theatre productions running in 2019 to choose from. Here’s our round-up of some of the most popular shows on offer at the moment…
School Of Rock The Musical
Playing in London’s West End until October, this is the tale of a rock band drop-out who takes a group of classically-trained school children to compete in a battle of the bands.
Based on the hit movie starring Jack Black, the production has been crafted by Andrew Lloyd Webber and stars Craig Gallivan, Laura Tebbut and a host of amazing child and adult performers.
Even Jack himself has seen the show, and said: “I laughed. I cried. I rocked!”
School Of Rock The Musical is now playing at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in Drury Lane.
Shakespeare at Blenheim Palace
Here’s one all classic lovers will not want to miss – Europe’s first ever pop-up Shakespearean Theatre, Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre, sets down for a summer residency at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.
The four plays being performed are: Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet, Richard III and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
The theatre will be created within a whole Shakespearean village, bringing an authentic Elizabethan ambience and theatricality to the event, including wagon performances, Oxfordshire for and drink and an Elizabethan garden.
Running from 8 July to 7 September.
Six the Musical at the London Arts Theatre
A 21st-century take on the lives of the wives of Henry VII, this musical takes the pages of history, rips them up and burns them in a blaze of girl power.
Fed up with being consigned to history as a rhyme (you know the one, “Divorced, beheaded, died…”) the Tudor Queens and Pop Princesses sing their side of the story. With tracks including Don’t Lose Your Head and I Don’t Need Your Love, the musical is more Ariana Grande than Greensleeves.
Running at the London Arts Theatre, until January 2020.
Scottish Ballet - The Crucible
Based on Arthur Miller’s tale of power and persecution, this world premiere will take you through the twists and turns of the Salem witch trials.
Helen Pickett’s choreography unleashes the emotional force of Miller’s masterpiece, accompanied by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra performing Peter Salem’s haunting new score.
Running at Edinburgh’s Playhouse as part of the Edinburgh International Festival, from 3 to 5 August, and later dates throughout Scotland.
