Hot weather, laughter, good food and stunning views have emerged as the major factors which make a holiday unforgettable for, according to a study.
Researchers who polled 2,000 UK sunseekers found a memory-laden holiday also requires at least five fun activities including wine tasting, jet-skiing and skydiving and escaping to enjoy nature.
One in three said spending time with family was crucial – while one in 10 think an adult-only holiday is the best way to enjoy a sunshine break.
The study, commissioned by Iberostar, also found one in five Brits prefer to holiday in style, opting for an exclusive experience – with five-star hospitality, high-end dining and first-class travel in high demand.
Oscar Gonzalez, global marketing director of Iberostar Hotels & Resorts, said: “Our study shows that everyone’s vision of their perfect holiday is different.
''And creating a memorable trip should be seamless, whether you’re looking to unwind on a beach or fuel your wanderlust with a big adventure.”
But when it comes to making a family trip memorable, 42 per cent of travellers said it was important for their kids to have access to lots of activities.
One third said it was good for children to make new friends, while four in 10 said they would need access to a pool.
Romantic Brits even said getting married or engaged made their holiday truly memorable, while one in seven suggested holidaying with a loved onecmade it a trip to remember.
Keeping healthy on holiday is also an important facet of a great vacation – four in 10 love to walk and hike, while a third think swimming is the ultimate fitness activity.
The research also shows how Brits have become more sustainable, with one third agreeing their holiday would be more memorable if their holiday company too measures to be more environmentally friendly.
And nearly all of those polled agreed that the gastronomy consumed on holiday was fundamental to creating a memorable experience – with 40 per cent preferring to eat sustainable, locally caught foods.
It also emerged with UK holidaymakers predicted to book more short breaks in 2019 than ever before, Italy and New York are among the top city destinations, the study by OnePoll found.
