Super-talented singer-songwriter Becky Hill has joined the Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On line-up.
The 25-year-old rose to prominence in the first series of The Voice UK and went on to become the show’s first contestant to record a number one chart hit with the platinum-selling Gecko (Overdrive) with Oliver Heldens.
She is currently in the top 10 in the official download chart with Wish You Well, a collaboration with Sigala that has already had almost two million views on YouTube.
Becky Hill will appear at the Switch-On celebration at Blackpool’s Tower Festival Headland on Friday 30 August along with Brit Award-winners, Busted, singer Nina Nesbitt and Sigma, the British drum and bass DJ and record production duo who have twice topped the UK singles charts.
Staged in association with MTV, the concert will also feature Britain’s top dance group, Diversity, and Club MTV DJs R3wire & Varski who will perform in what promises to be the most spectacular free event of the year!
Cllr Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council, said: “We are delighted to complete the main show line-up with this announcement. Becky is one of the UK’s great home-grown music talents and we can’t wait to welcome her to the Switch-On stage.”
The Friday night celebration will start with a “Blackpool Introduces” section, showcasing the best of talent from across the Fylde Coast, prior to the start of the main show, the Switch-On itself, and then an hour-long party under the lights. The identity of the celebrity who will pull the famous switch will be announced in the coming weeks along with some special guests.
As last year, the Switch-On event will be free, with people invited to apply for the 20,000 tickets that will guarantee entry to the Tower Festival Headland arena with half of these going exclusively to Blackpool residents. The wristband ballot closes at noon on Monday 29 July. To register, go to: www.visitblackpool.com/switchon
Anyone who wants to guarantee their place at Blackpool’s big night, can purchase a Golden Circle ticket or VIP package.
The Golden Circle offers a limited number of people a close-up view of the show in a guaranteed access, exclusive section at the front of the arena. Tickets, priced £10*, will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
The VIP packages include access to a covered marquee within the Switch-On arena with a complimentary welcome drink, mini picnic bag with a “Taste of Lancashire” theme, as well as passes to the exclusive after-show party in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom.
Guests in the VIP marquee can also enjoy a special treat courtesy of Blackpool’s best-loved ice cream parlour, Notarianni’s.
This year’s VIP catering is supplied by award-winning Campbell & Rowley, who will also provide the after-show hospitality in the Tower Ballroom, offering a delicious array of modern Lancashire street food including starter, main course and desserts with a distinctive Golden Mile theme!
There will be a programme of entertainment in the ballroom, with live music, some surprise guests and a chance for guests to help celebrate The Blackpool Tower’s 125th birthday this year.
The VIP package is £69.50* for adults and £35* for under 14s and is on sale now.
